Report: Young people's relationship with news and information search

Title (original language): Rapport: Ungdommers forhold til nyheter og informasjonssøk

The report "Young people's relationship with news and information search" explores how young people engage with news and seek information in today's media landscape. It examines their habits, trust in news sources, and challenges they face in distinguishing true news from misinformation. It highlights that while many youths are interested in current events, they often navigate a complex digital environment with varying degrees of skepticism and reliance on social media. The study also discusses how digital skills and critical thinking affect how young people process and verify information.

Methodology

This report is based on qualitative interviews with ten young people aged 13-15, about their relationship with news and information seeking. The purpose of the interviews was to go into more depth based on the questions about these topics in the Children and Media 2024 survey. Following the quantitative survey, ten young people between the ages of 13 and 15 around the country responded to questions about how they search for information online and their trust in news through digital interviews. All ten young people answered approximately the same questions. The interviews were conducted with each young person in August and September 2024.
