This report presents a summary of the initial findings from the International Computer and Information Literacy Study (ICILS 2023), coordinated in Slovenia by the Pedagogical Institute. ICILs assesses the computer and information literacy (CIL) and computational thinking (CT) skills of eighth-grade students, and gathers contextual data from schools, teachers, and students. Key findings for Slovenia show a decline in CIL performance since 2013 and below-average CT scores compared to international benchmarks, with a significant proportion of students not meeting basic proficiency levels. The report highlights that differences between schools are minimal, yet large disparities exist among students. Despite good school infrastructure, students' ICT use for schoolwork is low, contrasting with high use for entertainment. The report concludes that digital education necessitates more structured support beyond families and students.

Methodology
The International Computer and Information Literacy Study (ICILS 2023) involved 34 countries (or educational systems) and one comparative region. In Slovenia, the study was conducted from 3 May to 22 June 2023, with an additional principal questionnaire regarding ChatGPT completed between 11 October and 10 November 2023. The representative sample for Slovenia comprised 3,318 eighth-grade students, 2,337 eighth-grade teachers, 161 principals, and 168 ICT coordinators from 169 schools.
