Volume of privacy complaints filed by minors remains low
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is not yet working optimally when it comes to protecting the privacy of children. Of the 28,000 complaints received by the Dutch Data Protection Authority, only 1 per cent concerned the violation of the privacy of a minor user. This while children represent a third of the online user group. The Dutch Safer Internet Centre and the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) cooperated on a podcast on this theme.

Safer Internet Day 2024 in Bosnia and Herzegovina: the importance of safe usage of digital technologies
This year's Safer Internet Day celebration in Bosnia and Herzegovina was celebrated under the slogan Surf safely - Together for a better internet. Safer Internet Day 2024 activities in Estonia
For Safer Internet Day 2024, the Estonian Union for Child Welfare, the Education and Youth Board, Tallinn University of Technology, and Telia Estonia jointly organised a thematic conference titled Smartly on the web: digital well-being and mental health. Safer Internet Day 2024 in Iceland
Safer Internet Day 2024 had a slightly different format in Iceland this year: due to huge earthquakes and volcanic eruptions that affected the country's organisation and administration, the time to plan Safer Internet Day was short. Finland’s Media Literacy Week: issues of media usage and well-being
Safer Internet Day in Finland was celebrated in an extended version, namely Media Literacy Week, which sparked hundreds of activities around the country. This year, 70 partner organisations contributed to week’s activities, which took place from 5 - 11 February 2024. Teachers, educators, librarians, youth workers, and social workers from across the country participated in the event.

Safer Internet Day 2024 in Austria: Beauty ideals on the internet
The Austrian Safer Internet Centre focused on beauty ideals for Safer Internet Day 2024. They conducted a survey on "Beauty ideals on the internet". The survey shows that young people increasingly feel pressured by idealised body images on the internet. More than half of the young people questioned in the study would like to change something about their appearance, and more than a quarter have already considered cosmetic surgery. Social media and influencers have a major influence on how people judge themselves. However, young people also see opportunities to escape this pressure - at least theoretically.
