Surprisingly, only one in ten children feel the internet does not help them make career decisions. The impact of the internet on career decisions is significant, with 43 per cent of children acknowledging a high level of influence and another 40 per cent attributing a moderate level of influence to online sources when contemplating their future paths.  

The internet is a vast knowledge repository, offering insights into various professions, educational pathways, and vocational opportunities. From virtual tours of workplaces to educational resources and professional testimonials, children can gain invaluable exposure to diverse career options beyond traditional norms.  However, with this vast expanse of information comes the need for critical discernment. While the internet can provide inspiration and guidance, children must approach online career information with discernment. Encouraging them to seek guidance from trusted adults, explore diverse perspectives, and validate sources can empower them to make informed decisions about their future.  

As educators and parents, fostering open dialogue about career exploration and leveraging the internet as a tool for learning and discovery can cultivate a sense of agency and ambition in children. By nurturing their curiosity and guiding them through the digital landscape responsibly, we can empower the next generation to navigate their career journeys with confidence and purpose.
