In this partial report, results are presented in the areas that illuminate children's views and experiences around harmful content, negative incidents online, sexual comments and nude images. The survey in this area has been voluntary to answer and has only been done among 13-18 year olds.
(Source: Norwegian Media Authority).
The purpose of the survey is to provide insight into how children and young people reflect on their own media use. Main findings include:
- A third of teenagers aged 13-18 have been exposed to hateful messages directed at groups or individuals and/or frightening or violent images or films, several times online in the past year. This is the type of harmful content most people have been exposed to. Around two out of ten have several times seen content related to ways to get thin and/or the sale of alcohol. More than one in ten has repeatedly seen the planning of fights or fights, self-harm and/or the sale of drugs.
- Among 13–18-year-olds, 42 per cent have experienced that someone has written ugly comments to them online during the past year. A third have experienced being banned from a group, that someone has posted photos or videos of them against their will, that something they have shared has been shared against their will and/or receiving threats. 23 percent respond that they have been bullied online during the past year.
- 22 percent of teenagers have received unwanted sexual comments online in the past year.
- A third of 13–18-year-olds have been sent a nude photo and/or been asked to send a nude photo.
