Better Internet for Kids

The Media Council for Children and Young People run the awareness centre in SIC DK. This means the Media Council is responsible for disseminating relevant knowledge about the digital lives of children and young people, developing awareness-raising activities, and publishing materials for children, youths, professionals, parents, and other carers.

The Media Council has specialised expertise across a wide range of topics aimed at strengthening media literacy among children and young people, including knowledge of digital rights, gaming, platform guides, and resources targeted at parents and professionals.

As a knowledge hub and mediator of the latest developments in the field of children and young people’s use of online technologies, SIC DK has established broad collaborations with representatives from academic institutions, industry, governmental bodies, and law enforcement.

Since its establishment in 2016, the DeleteIT Advisory Service has provided professional and confidential support to children and young people under the age of 18 who have experienced digital abuse, online violations, or other distressing experiences online. Parents, caregivers, and professionals can also contact the service. Support is available via telephone, email, and live chat. The service is accredited by RådgivningsDanmark (the Danish Association of Counselling Services).

The DeleteIt Helpline is contacted both when a specific digital violation has occurred or is suspected, or when children, young people, and the adults around them seek guidance on how to prevent and avoid digital abuse. A key part of the service’s work is providing psychological first aid, including practical support to help individuals manage acute distress, regain a sense of overview, and navigate their current situation.

This includes assistance with reporting and removing harmful images, videos, or online profiles by contacting social media platforms, the police, or other relevant authorities. The service also provides guidance, knowledge, and advice to parents, relatives, and professionals seeking insight into how children and young people can engage safely and confidently in digital environments.

Save The Children Denmark has been designated as a trusted flagger under the Digital Service Act (DSA) in the EU, tasked with reporting illegal content to social platforms.

Children and young people can contact the DeleteIt Helpline through telephone, email, or live chat. The service is designed to be easily accessible for those seeking support, guidance, or practical assistance related to digital abuse or harmful online experiences.

The helpline can be contacted directly through its website, which is designed to make contact options, communication channels, and opening hours easily accessible and readily available to children, young people, parents, and professionals seeking support.

The live chat service allows children and young people to receive anonymous support from trained advisors, while telephone and email counselling provide opportunities for more in-depth guidance and follow-up. Parents, caregivers, and professionals are also welcome to contact the service for advice and information.

The DeleteIt Helpline aims to provide a safe, confidential, and non-judgemental space where children, young people, and the adults around them can seek help, explore their options, and receive support in addressing digital harms and online safety concerns.

AnmeldDet – Report child sexual abuse material (CSAM)

Across the world, children and young people under the age of 18 are subjected to sexual abuse. In many cases, this abuse is documented in images and videos that are later shared online. Such material can spread rapidly across the internet, causing further harm to the victims.

AnmeldDet is a hotline operated by Save the Children Denmark, where anyone can report suspected child sexual abuse material online. Every report helps us identify and remove this harmful content, contributing to the protection of children and the prevention of further abuse.

All reports made through AnmeldDet are completely anonymous, and reports can be made at any time.

The Center for Digital Youth Care is responsible for all child and youth participation within SIC DK, ensuring that the voices of children and young people are heard and included throughout the centre’s work. This is achieved through facilitating youth panels, peer-to-peer activities, and participation in national and international collaborations.

The Centre for Digital Youth Care has many years of experience in facilitating youth involvement and expertise in digital counselling, children’s digital habits and risk behaviours, media literacy, as well as trends and developments in social media and video games. Additionally, the centre actively participates in the European Insafe network, which comprises all Safer Internet Centres, contributing their knowledge and expertise in various working groups and collaborations
