Youth working with industry

BIK Youth Ambassadors are consulted by industry to provide their views on particular topics to help co-design resources and materials.

Youth engagement with industry partnerships, especially in the digital realm, is becoming crucial in addressing societal challenges. A recent example is the Google summit on 'Fighting Misinformation Online' held in Brussels on 21 March 2024, which brought together experts and young voices to discuss media literacy and disinformation in the context of elections.

At the summit, eight BIK Youth Ambassadors took part in the session 'Building Trust - Media Literacy with and for Young Voters,' where they shared insights on the role of young people in combating misinformation. They emphasised the influence of content creators in motivating their peers to vote and highlighted how misinformation can distort political engagement. Ambassadors also stressed the need for better media literacy education, with many stating that most of their learning came outside formal schooling. Through their participation, the youth ambassadors called for greater responsibility and empowerment of young people in shaping the future of democratic participation.
