About the organisation
The work of the Latvian Safer Internet Centre (SIC) is coordinated by the Latvian Internet Association with partners The Child Protection Centre and The Local Government Training Centre. The Latvian SIC promotes a safer and better use of the internet and mobile technologies among children and young people. It develops informative and educational activities, organises awareness-raising activities, and ensures the operation of the helpline and hotline.
Awareness centre
The Latvian awareness centre informs and educates children, adolescents, teachers and parents about the safety of internet content and potential threats on the internet, and also develops digital, information and media literacy among schoolchildren.
The main activities implemented and coordinated by the centre include:
- Celebration of Safer Internet Day (SID) in Latvia.
- Development of educational materials on internet safety for all target groups – children, adolescents, parents, teachers and social workers.
- Organisation of different seminars, training sessions and other activities.
- Organisation of social campaigns on current topics.
- Training of specialists, teachers, librarians and trainers.
- Involvement of kindergartens and universities in activities on internet safety.
- Development of closer cooperation with mobile operators and internet service providers.

Helpline
The children's helpline, 116111, aims to provide psychological support to children and teenagers in difficult situations. The helpline also provides consultations on internet safety-related topics and processes reports concerning illegal internet content.
Contact and opening hours:
- The helpline number 116111 is accessible free of charge, 24/7.
Hotline
The hotline offers internet users a way of reporting something they suspect to be illegal on the internet. The hotline investigates these reports to determine if they are illegal and, if so, to trace the origin of the content and forward it either to the national Law Enforcement Agency in Latvia, the Cyber Crime Enforcement Unit of the State Police or to the appropriate INHOPE member hotline of the country where the content appears to be hosted. Each report received will be processed. Reports can be made anonymously.

Youth participation
The Latvian Safer Internet Centre Consults with Youth Panel members regularly and involves them in developing the content and organisation of activities for minors in Latvia. Find more information on the Latvian Youth Panel here and on the Youth Panel's Instagram account.

Any youngster who wishes to take part in the Youth Panel can contact the Safer Internet Centre via e-mail or via Instagram.
Key successes
In 2023, the coordinator of the Latvian Safer Internet Centre received the highest award of the Latvian state - the Cross of Recognition - for raising awareness about internet safety and media literacy among children in Latvia, and for ensuring the operation of the hotline combating child sexual abuse material (CSAM) online. The award was presented by the President of Latvia.
In 2025, the Latvian Safer Internet Centre received the “Platinum Mouse” ICT industry award. The expert jury recognised the project "Digital safety school for children", created by major ISP Tet and the Latvian Safer Internet Centre, as the best cybersecurity initiative.
