Connected comprises five modules exploring young people’s rights and responsibilities online, emerging digital technologies and topics including big data and the data economy, deep fakes, false information and online wellbeing. The five modules are:
1. My Online Wellbeing
2. News, Information and Problems of False Information
3. Big Data & the Data Economy
4. My Rights Online
5. Publishing Online - Group Project

‘Big data’ has transformed the economy we live in. Over the last few decades, it’s become far cheaper to collect and store, and much more valuable to own and use. It’s now overtaken oil to become the most valuable resource in the world.

This short animation is one of the supporting animations for an education resource titled; Connected – an introduction to digital media literacy.

With so much information at our fingertips it can be easy to come across something online that isn’t quite as accurate or reliable as it should be. This kind of information is often called Fake News but a better description might be false information because it affects more than news stories.

The Media literacy in Finland policy document aims to clarify the field of media education and describe the strengths, values and principles of media education in Finland. This document also highlights areas for improvement and the related social, cultural and technological development trends.

Finnish Safer Internet Centre coordinated the policy process in collaboration with more than 100 different shareholders and the policy came into effect in 2020. You can read more about the process here: /web/portal/practice/awareness/detail?articleId=5519531

The main focus of Safelyonline project is the improvement of online medialiteracy levels among children and young poeple through the extensive media literacy education of their parents. More concretely, in the framework of this project, Gezinsbond and Child Focus (Belgian Safer Internet Centre) have been offering training to parents about the online media their children use daily. With about 150 training sessions every year, we are able to reach 4,500 parents.

Video in preparation for the upcoming SID 2020 topic "Idols online – Influencers and Power of Opinion" by the German SIC. Members of the klicksafe Youth Panel talk about their thought concerning influencers. The video is meant as an inspiration to talk more about the topic and develop practical ideas for Safer Internet Day.
