Due to increasing number of reports received to Latvian Hotline from parents, teachers and school’s support staff regarding the problem of child nudes circulating on the internet SIC has developed informative resource to raise awareness of parents and teachers about the risks when children unconsciously are producing child pornography and sharing it in closed chat groups, social media and elsewhere on the internet. Nudes of adolescents usually go online because they exchange sexually explicit pictures with their peers without thinking of consequences.

To warn parents about such a trend among adolescents SIC has developed an informative resource, where parents can find useful information on how a naked child’s photo usually goes online. The most common approaches of pedophiles to get nudes from children are also described.

Resource gives precise recommendations about steps that has to be taken if a child has posted naked photo, sent it to somebody or told parents that a photo of a naked minor is on the Internet. The information also includes practical advises how parents should act if their child is seeking for a help in such cases.

The material urges parents to report immediately about any activities with a naked minor’s photo on the Internet, which means spreading illegal content. Under Latvian law, a person producing or distributing naked children’s photos can be criminalized from the age of 14.
