How to protect my child from viewing inappropriate and harmful internet content?

Sometimes parents don’t realize that their child have access to online content from his/her device (family device) which is not considered as “family friendly” or “made for kids” and can be inappropriate to his age – violent abusive or sexually explicit. Child can face harmful content accidentally – surfing on the internet, watching videos or checking social media, searching seen or heard keywords by curiosity or receiving from friends or schoolmates direct links to the content that confuses, scares or upsets the child.

Resource aims to give parents practical advices on the importance of using child’s birth date (REAL age) when setting the user account and other useful advises to prevent child from viewing the content that might be harmful to him:

1. How to talk to a child if he/she has seen something upsetting or unpleasant on the internet and feels confused, shocked or even frightened?
2. How to prevent access to inappropriate content from child’s device by using appropriate privacy and security settings as well as parental control tools provided by online service providers e.g. YouTube, Google, WhatsApp etc.
3. How to report illegal and harmful content on the Internet.
