The Child Protection and Finnish Hotline maintains the Hotline service (Nettivihje service in Finnish), which received 3,439 reports on activities and material related to the sexual abuse of children in digital environments in 2021. A large proportion of sexual offenses against children are not brought to the attention of the authorities, for example, because of the high threshold involved in notifying the authorities of a suspected offense or illegal material.With the help of the low-threshold Hotline service, it is also possible to bring to the attention of the authorities such situations that, for one reason or another, are not reported directly to the police. In this way, increasingly more sexual offenses against children can be solved and child sexual abuse material can be effectively removed from the internet.
