Alternatives | Taking action against hate speech through counter-narratives

Portuguese version with IPDJ seal, from the Council of Europe edition, Alternatives manual is a tool against hate. This manual aims to help young people and educators to confront, dismantle and replace hateful narratives.

As you read these pages, you will not find a single phrase, slogan, meme or cartoon that counters all hate speech. Most importantly, you will find tested methods and powerful alternative proposals. The idea is not just to tell different stories, but to build and make available truer versions of the world around us, which encourage other people to question prejudices and think critically, deepening the knowledge and understanding of ourselves and others.

  • children and young people, individual (general interest), organisations and industry, parents and caregivers, policy and decision makers, research
