Better Internet for Kids

While simultaneously facing the war in Ukraine, schools, libraries and non-governmental organisations recently took part in the traditional annual Safer Internet Day (SID) celebrations, along with approximately 180 countries across the world. The Ukrainian Safer Internet Day Committee has been working all year long in order to reinforce the efforts of all stakeholders to bring the celebration of Safer Internet Day to each region of Ukraine.

The Insafe network of Safer Internet Centres did not hold back when it came to the celebrations of the 20th anniversary of Safer Internet Day. Safer Internet Day (SID) celebrated its 20th anniversary on 7 February 2023. This European Union initiative is held each year to raise awareness and ensure a safer internet throughout the world. BEE SECURE, Luxembourg Safer Internet Centre, looks back on the events that took place as part of #SID2023.

The Media Literacy Week (MLW) was celebrated in Finland as part of the Safer Internet Day campaign. This year, we emphasised making media education visible and the timelessness of media education, in such a way that events and materials can be enjoyed throughout the year.

On the occasion of Safe Internet Day 2023, the Serbian Safer Internet Centre (SIC) organised the conference “Safer Internet Day 2023 – Together for a better internet” in the Palace of Serbia, Belgrade. The Minister of Information and Telecommunications, the Minister of Education, and the Director of UNICEF Serbia officially opened the conference.

Those who fled from the war in Ukraine to Germany could not receive the help they needed at the German-language counselling services of Nummer gegen Kummer. However, it quickly became clear that this sensitive group in particular needs a high level of support in their native language.

The Safer Internet Day (SID) was celebrated for the 20th time worldwide this year. The International Children’s Safety Service (ICSS) as the consortium leader of the Safer Internet Program (SIP) in Hungary, organised a special internet safety program at the Ludovika-UPS on 7 February 2023.

Safer Internet Day is a global initiative that aims to promote safe and responsible use of online technology and mobile devices, especially among young people. The Maltese Safer Internet Centre, BeSmartOnline, was thrilled with the success they have achieved during this year's celebrations.
