Better Internet for Kids

The 2022 edition of the Media ‘Ukkie’ Days campaign took place from 25 March - 1 April 2022. Over the course of the campaign, countless parents were helped with tips, tools and advice. The new ‘Iene Miene Media’ study was also presented, full of insights into how parents experience the media education of their little ones.

Irish President Higgins has signed the Online Safety and Media Regulation (OSMR) bill into law.  

Great insights and discussions were held at the 2022 edition of the Internet Governance Forum (#IGF2022) on 29 November 2022. The Greek delegation was especially involved in the workshop on online disinformation.

Embracing a balanced approach to digital devices can significantly improve family ties and children's physical, mental and emotional development. Encouraging responsible and mindful digital habits can foster solid relationships and well-being in the family. Here are eight tips to help ensure families' healthy use of digital devices.

The issue of low female participation in IT and cyber-related activities seems to be apparent in most countries. The information technology sector is in need of many new specialists in Estonia and elsewhere in the world.

In 2020, the Maltese helpline 179 received over 500 phone calls and around 700 calls during 2021, all of which were related to online safety concerns. This led to the launching of the seventh edition of the BeSmartOnline! project, which protects children when they are online and provides more awareness and guidance to parents and educators to better tackle online safety issues of young people.

The BIK+ strategy aims to promote the digital empowerment of children and young people, and France wanted to affirm its alignment with the European policy by proposing a SID 2023 campaign committed to this specific principle.

BeSmartOnline!, part of the Maltese Safer Internet Centre, provides information and tips on how to keep children and young people safe online. It just launched a new project phase co-funded by EU − Digital Europe.

The internet is very popular with everyone, and in particular with the younger generation. It offers an array of opportunities; from doing online research, to following news and for entertainment. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, it was an essential tool for communication, on several occasions it was the only way that children could keep in touch with their peers and families.
