Better Internet for Kids

Each year the world celebrates Safer Internet Day (SID) on 11 February. Initiated by the Insafe network of European Safer Internet Centres (SICs), this event aims to raise awareness of the safe use of internet for vulnerable users, such as children and young people.

On Tuesday, 11 February 2020, Portugal celebrated Safer Internet Day (SID) with a high-level meeting at the Artur Gonçalves School Cluster in Torres Novas.

On Tuesday, 11 February 2020, Safer Internet Day was marked in 170 countries around the world – the French Safer Internet Centre (SIC) was part of the celebrations, with one specificity however; in France, Safer Internet Day lasts for an entire month.

The Better Internet for Kids (BIK) and #SaferInternet4EU review of the year 2019 was released on Tuesday, 11 February 2020, on the occasion of Safer Internet Day (SID). It gives an extensive summary of the activities undertaken under the BIK umbrella and in the framework of the #SaferInternet4EU campaign.

In celebration of Safer Internet Day (SID) 2020, a group of Better Internet for Kids (BIK) Youth Ambassadors prepared a Youth Pledge for a Better Internet on how to make the information on the apps and services they use on the internet more age appropriate for children and young people.

In preparation for Safer Internet Day (SID) 2020, The Media Council for Children and Young People (Denmark) held a conference on sharing and manipulating images online. The conference, which took place on 27 January 2020, was held in collaboration with the Danish Safer Internet Centre (SIC) partners: The Centre for Digital Youth Care and Save the Children. During the conference, young people and experts shared their thoughts on the theme. On SID 2020, we will publish materials (in Danish) with information and learnings from the day.

The campaign's slogan, "Together for a better internet", is a call to action for all stakeholders to join together and play their part in creating a better internet for everyone.
