A national initiative for the online protection of minors in France
Over the last two years, our Contact Point partners, as well as various actors involved in the protection of minors online and NGOs, have noticed a sharp increase in reports of intimate content involving minors. We must pay attention to the psychological consequences the dissemination of such content can have on victims.
Almost all teenagers in Slovenia already use AI – most use it for school, some for entertainment
A survey conducted in spring 2025 by the Slovenian Safer Internet Centre at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Ljubljana showed that generative artificial intelligence tools are already used by most pupils in the third triad of primary school (aged 12-15), and by most secondary school students. They are most often used for schoolwork, and to research topics that interest them.
Sexual extortion
The European Commission is actively working to combat online child sexual abuse, including sexual extortion. Sexual extortion is the blackmailing of a person with the use of sexualised images of that person in order to extort sexual acts or material, money, or other benefits from them under the threat of sharing the material without the consent of the depicted person (for example, posting images on social media).

With the start of the new school year, the Greek Safer Internet Centre presents a new comprehensive package of educational material aimed at students of all levels, parents, and educators.
Who owns my game?
Digital games, played for over 50 years, underwent a significant shift from physical ownership to online libraries with the rise of the internet. This transformation turned games into services, offering additional purchases like character outfits and in-game items. Effective in April, a new code of conduct aims to address financial practices and enhance transparency.
January to June 2025 in review: continued growth in hotline reports
Across the first two quarters of 2025, European Commission co-funded hotlines submitted data to the Insafe INHOPE Assessment Platform. Hotlines received a combined total of more than 3.6 million reports in this six-month period. This represents a sustained upward trend from the start of the year, reflecting both the growing visibility of reporting mechanisms and the expanding reach of hotlines across Europe.

The Insafe network of helplines collects data about the calls received, and this is analysed every three months in order to look at possible trends and emerging issues.
In the spotlight: Safer Internet Centre North Macedonia
As part of the Better Internet for Kids (BIK) Quality Assurance Programme (QAP), the Insafe-INHOPE Coordination Teams are jointly conducting a set of fifteen country visits to national Safer Internet Centres (SICs) to better understand what is happening in the Member States: monitoring emerging issues and challenges, identifying good practices to be shared, and harvesting the results of Better Internet for Kids (BIK) policy. On 27 January 2025, an online national visit was organised with the North Macedonian SIC.
Slovenia celebrated Safer Internet Day 2022 with an online event for teachers and educators
Safer Internet Day (SID) 2022 was celebrated in Slovenia on 8 February. The national awareness-raising centre Safe.si picked internet scams and disinformation as the main theme for this edition of SID, as they have a negative impact on children's mental health and well-being, with a special focus on teachers and educators, as they play an important role in raising awareness among young people.
