Mexico celebrates Safer Internet Day 2023

In Mexico, the Mexican Safer Internet Day Committee Fundación PAS, part of the SIC+ programme, was in charge of organising Safer Internet Day 2023. To celebrate the day, several events were organised in collaboration with stakeholders and influencers.

One of the events the Mexican Safer Internet Committee also participated in was the "International Meeting for a Digital World Free of Child Sexual Abuse Materials. This meeting was held in the Senate of the Republic and in the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection of Mexico. 110 operatives from Mexico's cybersecurity units attended the training. It is the first time in history that almost all state units have been brought together in one place for training.

Working group on Digital Sexual Violence

The Safer Internet Day Committee also presented their virtual and free reporting line to cybersecurity experts and commissioners for the rights of children and young people. This was presented during the worktable called "Analysis of the Regulatory Framework on Digital Sexual Violence against Children and Teenagers". 

Raising awareness of internet risks

Moreover, to educate children and young people on online risk and to prevent violence within digital environments, the Committee organised several live events on social media platforms such as TikTok, Facebook and Instagram. Topics included sextortion, sexual practices and child sexual abuse. In addition, a podcast was launched to talk about risks on the internet,

Throughout the month of February, a dissemination plan for Safer Internet Day was launched on all social media platforms to reach children and young people. This reached more than 180,000 people. 

SIC+ programme 

Better Internet Centre is one of the participants of the SIC+ programme. The programme made its official debut in 2020, with the objective of broadening the European network of Safer Internet Centres with countries from across the globe. The first piloting phase includes organisations from Armenia, Bolivia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Serbia and Ukraine.
