Webwise, the Irish Safer Internet Centre, has developed a range of new resources to raise awareness of the Harassment, Harmful Communications and Related Offences Bill (Coco’s Law) which was recently introduced in Ireland. Coco’s Law has criminalised the non-consensual distribution of intimate images.
To highlight the new legislation, Webwise hosted a free webinar which provided teachers with an opportunity to familiarise themselves with the latest updates including an in-depth overview of Coco’s Law. Access the webinar recording and related information here.
To help schools and students, a newly-developed lesson for post-primary schools has been made available. The lesson, What is Coco’s Law?, will help students to recognise the key offences under the Harassment, Harmful Communication and Related Offences Act 2020, understand that their online actions have consequences for both themselves and others, and recognise that they are accountable for their actions. Following the lesson, students will feel empowered to speak up about online sexual harassment and know where to go for help if it occurs.
