Digital Child Protection Strategy of Hungary (DGYS)

Title (original language): Magyarország Digitális Gyermekvédelmi Stratégiája (DGYS)

The Digital Child Protection Strategy of Hungary outlines a comprehensive approach to safeguarding children in the digital space. This strategy, a component of Hungary’s broader Digital Success Programme, was developed in response to emerging risks and the increasing role of the internet in children’s lives. As children are now active participants in the digital world, the strategy emphasises the need for them to be knowledgeable and aware of their online interactions.

The strategy was mandated by Government Decree No 2012/2015, which followed a national consultation campaign called InternetKon. This consultation revealed a public consensus on the necessity of protecting children from online threats. The Strategy builds on three principles: awareness-raising and media education, protection and safety, and sanctions and support. It aims to promote child protection, develop digital skills, and inform citizens to safer internet use.
