How can age assurance protect children from harmful experiences?

Digital services (such as websites and apps). can be great for children and young people, offering fun and learning opportunities. But they can also be risky, exposing children to dangerous content or people who might harm them.

Age assurance can help ensure that children and young people only use parts of a service that are right for their age. For example, services can block young children from chatting with strangers or only show them safe videos.
Websites and apps can also stop children from using features that are like gambling or that try to get them to spend money (like loot boxes).
Age assurance is one way to keep kids safe online, along with content ratings and parental controls

Remember, though, that no safety measure is perfect. It's best to combine these tools with teaching kids about online safety and talking openly with them about their internet use.
