Can children influence age assurance?

Children have a right to have their say in things that affect them, according to United Nations rules (United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC)).

Age assurance can affect how children use digital services, such as websites and apps.

When done right, it can help to make sure that children and young people see content that's right for their age.
However, it can also stop young people from using important tools and services that they need.

Age assurance isn't a perfect solution for keeping children and young people safe online, and we need to think carefully about when to use it.

We should also listen to what children think and want when deciding how to check ages online.

Children should understand why age assurance is important and how it works.
It should be simple to use, and they should be able to easily get help if something goes wrong.
Companies which provide digital services (such as websites and apps) should include children's input when creating their services and when implementing age assurance methods.
