This research report presents a comprehensive study on media use and media literacy in Flanders and Brussels, including children and young people between the ages of 6 and 18. Focusing on young people's digital environments, the research investigates how this audience experiences cybersecurity, generative AI, and digital well-being, among other topics, in order to engage in a dialogue with children and young people about digital media. Data was collected through a common questionnaire on media use and digital literacy for children and young people. An additional section aimed at adolescents included questions about information, elections, online relationships, sexting, and cyberbullying. The final sample contains responses from 5,788 children and young people, after excluding erroneous or incomplete data.

Methodology
This report is based on a large-scale online survey conducted in Flanders and Brussels on behalf of Betternet, the Belgian Safer Internet Centre (SIC). 7,168 participants from primary and secondary education, aged 6 to 18 years, completed an online questionnaire. Drawing on official statistics from the Flemish Ministry of Education, the survey aims to provide a sample of of Flemish young people that is as representative as possible in terms of gender, education level and type of education.
