About our SID activities

Theme for SID 2026

The theme for SID 2026 is system design and time spent on social media.

In the lead-up to SID, the Norwegian Safer Internet Centre (NSIC) will:

  • carry out a data donation analysis of 13-15 year olds use of Snapchat and TikTok
  • conduct interviews with young people about their usage patterns

The findings will form the basis for the SID deliverables, and a report will be published by the end of the month.

Collaboration and target groups

Safer Internet Day 2026 is a collaboration between:

  • The Norwegian Media Authority
  • Cross my heart
  • The Directorate of Health
  • The Directorate for Children, Youth and Families

The target audiences are:

  • young people
  • parents
  • adults who work with children

NSIC will run campaigns and produce articles aimed at:

  • young people
  • parents
  • professionals working with children

The content will focus on system design (algorithms), including:

  • streaks
  • Snap Map
  • Snapscore
  • infinite scroll

and how these features influence the amount of time spent on the platforms.

Workshop

In addition to articles and campaigns, we will organise a large participation workshop with 150 young people aged 13–14.

The workshop will:

  • combine educational activities with collecting input from the target group
  • be documented, so that the results can be shared afterwards

What we are doing to create a better internet...

Children and young people today don't separate their digital life from their offline life. By safeguarding children and young people's digital lives, the Norwegian Safer Internet Centre (NSIC) will help to equip children to become competent and critical media users. We will protect them from harmful content and provide knowledge and advice. It is a comprehensive task that we share with many.

We will help them in the most optimal and secure way possible. We must constantly consider skills, responsibilities and security. But children and adolescents cannot alone take care of a safe online environment, assume the right responsibilities, or develop the right skills. They need help, guidance and education. It is important that a broad public-private coalition of parties take responsibility for the digital security and skills of young people, and help parents and teachers guide and educate them. The Norwegian Safer Internet Centre brings together stakeholders to support their activities and achieve their goals. Together for a better internet.

The Media Authority and the Norwegian SIC acknowledge our shared responsibility for fulfilling, protecting and respecting children's rights in the digital environment under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).

About us

The Norwegian Safer Internet Centre (SIC) aims to help children and young people to have a safer and better digital life. The Norwegian SIC's main goal is to raise awareness and increase media literacy among children, parents and teachers, and other professionals working with children on online issues and online risks. The helpline services - Cross my heart - give advice and support to young people on issues related to their use of online technologies. The SIC collaborates with many different partners from both the private and public sector, and from NGOs to ministries, to ensure joint awareness-raising activities and development of common resources and tools.
