Better Internet for Kids

Haptic models for the book ON-LINE ZOO are mainly used by visually impaired and blind children, so that they can see the characters from the book and imagine them better. The models were designed by Prusa Research according to the illustrations in the book. It tried to preserve the distinctive drawing style of Achmed Abdel-Salam, who artistically rendered the book. This resulted in a total of 7 characters that relate to individual stories from the book, namely the director of the zoo, a monkey, a panda, an antelope, a lion, a giraffe and a penguin.

The educational material is intended for children and teachers in kindergartens. The booklet guides educators on how to talk to children about sexual abuse and sexting. Children then have the opportunity to dress up a girl or a boy (according to their choice) during the conversation.

On the occasion of Safer Internet Day 2023, we have prepared a handbook with tips on how to celebrate and organise this day in cooperation with the JSNS, helplines of Linka bezpečí and Dětské krizové centrum, the Police of the Czech Republic, and the Palacký University in Olomouc.

What is considered child prostitution on the Internet? As a parent, how to talk about this with children? How to act preventively? It is important to familiarize yourself with the strong risks of this behavior.

The video deals with the topic of risks on the Internet. It´s the first time the video has been processed as an animation. It can really appeal to all children and young people for whom the online world is a common and now essential part of life. An engaging video is a quick and safe way to get initial information on what to expect when children are in trouble.

• Reassure children that they don't have to be afraid to share what happened to them online.
• Be interested in children and their activities on the Internet from an early age.
• Do not take pictures of naked children or post pictures of your children on the Internet.
• Explain to the children that they should not share their login information with anyone and to choose strong passwords.
• Explain to the children that not everything on the Internet is unequivocally true.

Children are always one step further in the role of internet and social network users than we adults. At the same time, they often claim that they have sufficient information about online dating and security. But what is the reality? What risks do children perceive and what experiences do we have on the Safety Line? E.g. a common reaction is "I wouldn't just write to a stranger", but communication within online games, applications perceive safe "I write with a friend - a child who plays the same game". But is he really the one they imagine?

The research Online World in Children´s Homes aims to map the environment of children´s homes with regard to the risky forms of communication experienced by their child clients in the online environment. In our research, we are therefore mapping the risk situations children from children´s homes face, what preventive measure the children´s homes implement, what topics they address, how they regulate children´s work on the internet (with regard to time limits, content restrictions etc.), and how children actually access the internet from children´s homes.
