The Digital Assembly takes place this week in Toulouse, France. The conference will span two days and will include workshops, panel discussions and plenary sessions focusing on issues related to EU sovereignty and autonomy. As part of the programme, a workshop will focus on the newly adopted European strategy for a Better Internet for Kids (BIK+).
The Digital Assembly is a key event in the European Digital Agenda, co-hosted every year by the country holding the presidency of the Council of the European Union in the first semester of the year and the European Commission. This year, the Digital Assembly is organised under the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union. It will take place on 21-22 June 2022 in the Pierre Baudis Conference Centre in Toulouse, France, as well as online.
The conference will include four workshops, followed by a plenary session that will feature a range of high-level and inspirational speakers from the digital sector, policy makers, and academia.
Better Internet for Kids participation
A workshop will provide the opportunity to present the new European strategy for a Better Internet for Kids (BIK+), adopted by the European Commission in May 2022 to improve age-appropriate digital services and to ensure that every child is protected, empowered and respected online.
It is built on three key pillars:
- Safe digital experiences to protect children from harmful and illegal content, conduct, contact and consumer risks and to improve their well-being online through a safe, age-appropriate digital environment, created in a way that respects children’s best interests.
- Digital empowerment so children acquire the necessary skills and competences to make sound choices and express themselves in the online environment safely and responsibly.
- Active participation, respecting children by giving them a say in the digital environment, with more child-led activities to foster innovative and creative safe digital experiences.
The need for a new strategy stems from the fact that over the past ten years, digital technologies and the way children use them have changed dramatically, and most children now start using digital devices from a much younger age.
BIK Youth Ambassadors will participate in the workshop to highlight the youth perspective and voice their needs and views on the new BIK+ strategy. Read more about the new BIK+ strategy on the BIK portal.
