This research report by NASK examines the digital behaviours, online risks, and technology adoption of Polish teenagers alongside comparative insights from their parents. Findings include extensive smartphone use, averaging nearly five hours per day, driven mainly by social media, gaming, and online content. The study highlights emerging trends, including widespread adoption of artificial intelligence tools (e.g., ChatGPT) for education, alongside critical risks such as cyberbullying, early exposure to online pornography, patostreams (streaming abusive, vulgar, or illegal behaviour), sexting, and adult contact.
The findings show a persistent gap between adolescents' actual online experiences and parental awareness regarding digital supervision, rule-setting, and threat exposure.
Methodology
The study is based on a quantitative survey using the CAWI (Computer-Assisted Web Interview) technique. Conducted between September and October 2024, data was gathered from a nationwide, geographically representative sample across all 16 Polish voivodships. The final dataset comprised 3,655 completed student surveys (7th–8th grade primary school and 1st–2nd grade secondary school students) and 918 matched responses from parents/legal guardians across 160 participating schools.
