The Safe.si suvey for Safer Internet Day (SID) 2025 examined generative artificial intelligence (AI) adoption, behaviours, and attitudes among Slovenian teenagers. Findings showed high adoption rates, with 88 per cent of upper elementary (ages 12–15) and 92 per cent of high school students (ages 15–19) having used generative AI tools, primarily ChatGPT and Snapchat's MyAI. While teenagers mainly use AI for schoolwork, awareness of age restrictions remains low. Regarding misuse, around 15–16 per cent of respondents reported experiencing AI-facilitated cyberbullying, such as deepfakes or identity theft. Main concerns differ by age group: younger teenagers worry primarily about data privacy, whereas older teenagers express concerns over reliance on AI and job displacement.
Methodology
Anonymous online survey conducted between February and April 2025 as part of Safer Internet Day (SID) 2025 activities. The total sample consisted of 1,226 respondents in Slovenia, consisting of 594 upper elementary school students (3rd triad, ages 12–15) and 632 high school students (ages 15–19). The research was carried out by Safe.si (National Awareness Centre for Safe Internet Use) and the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Ljubljana.
