This cross-national study investigates the prevalence, impact, and behavioural profiles associated with cyberbullying among adolescents across six European countries: Romania, Lithuania, Greece, Italy, Turkey, and Portugal. Developed as part of the TECPC project, the initiative evaluates data from both national policy reviews and large-scale empirical surveys of students, teachers, and school counsellors. The report establishes detailed profiles of cyberbullying aggressors, victims, and aggressor-victims by age category and digital distribution channel. Its primary objective is to equip educators and policymakers with evidence-based diagnostic insights, facilitating targeted early intervention, improved digital safety protocols, and effective support strategies in schools.
Host project: Together Everyone Can Prevent Cyberbullying (TECPC)
Methodology
The study involved a two-stage multi-country mixed-methods design. Desk research was used to analyse the national situation across 6 partner countries (Romania, Lithuania, Greece, Italy, Turkey, Portugal), evaluating national statistics, support mechanisms, case studies, and best-practice policies. This was followed by quantitative data collection via online questionnaires targeting key school actors. 3,105 adolescents were interviewed across the partner countries along with 779 teachers and school counsellors. The study was conducted under the EU Erasmus+ Programme (Ref. No. 2020-1-RO01-KA226-SCH-095269), coordinated via Grigore T. Popa University of Medicine and Pharmacy (UMF Iași).
