This report investigates the prevalence and socio-emotional impact of online harassment among Romanian children and adolescents. Findings show that approximately one in two children has experienced cyberbullying, such as online insults, social exclusion, identity spoofing, or unauthorised image exposure. A significant proportion of victimised youth report chronic exposure occurring monthly or more frequently, which fosters expectations of repeated aggression. Six out of ten children feel negatively affected by online aggression, suffering from sleep disturbances, impaired concentration, reduced academic productivity, and heightened emotional distress. The report highlights the need for proactive educational, parental, and policy-level interventions.
Methodology
The study is based on a quantitative survey of children and adolescents in Romania. Data was collected using a structured self-administered questionnaire measuring multi-dimensional parameters of cyberbullying, including social exclusion, online denigration, unauthorised public exposure, identity theft, and online threats, alongside indicators of emotional, psychological, and behavioural well-being. Results were statistically analysed across demographic variables, gender differences, frequency rates, and psychological correlations.
