Part of an ongoing series, this report presents findings of the 2025 survey carried out by Hungary’s National Media and Infocommunications Authority (NMHH) evaluating digital media adoption, online habits, and parental mediation among children aged 7–16 and their parents. This edition highlights a structural shift toward early mobile and social media engagement, alongside growing online risks like screen addiction, cyberbullying, and exposure to harmful content. By examining parental awareness, rule-setting, and digital literacy gap dynamics between generations, the study highlights how active parental guidance significantly mitigates online harms. It provides policy recommendations to promote media conscious practices and strengthen digital child protection strategies in family environments.
Methodology
The study constitutes the third major wave (following 2017 and 2020 baseline iterations) of NMHH's longitudinal digital parenting research programme. The study involved a nationally representative sample of 2000 Hungarian children aged 7–16 living in private households, paired with 2000 parents/guardians identified as most knowledgeable about the child's media consumption.
Country or region of researched population
