Ungar & medier is Sweden’s largest biennial longitudinal study investigating media consumption habits, screen time, and digital attitudes among children and youth aged 0 to 18. Published by the Swedish Media Authority (Mediemyndigheten), the research examines leisure-time digital engagement on a typical day. It details online platform preferences, gaming habits, social media usage, news consumption, and exposure to online risks across distinct age groups. Additionally, the project captures parental perspectives regarding screen time guidelines, digital safety, and youth online behaviour. The findings provide critical baseline statistics for national policy formulation, media literacy initiatives, and child online safety frameworks. The report Ungar & medier 2025 describes media habits and attitudes towards media among children aged 9–18. It focuses on media use on a “normal day” in their free time, and the children answer the questions themselves.
Methodology
The reports are based on a nationally representative survey of Swedish children aged 0–18 on their media use and attitudes towards media. Statistics Sweden is conducting the selection from the population register and data collection. Data for the reports published in 2025 were collected in the autumn/winter of 2024.
