What is Google Maps?
Google Maps is a web and app service operated by Google that provides detailed information about geographical regions worldwide.
How does Google Maps work?
Google Maps works by using satellite and aerial imagery to create detailed maps, which are then made available to users. They can either search for a specific location and obtain navigation instructions via internet connection or GPS, or browse the map to explore an area, where landmarks and popular spots are usually highlighted. It offers a range of additional services such as Street View, a feature providing a visual 360 representation of the surroundings by stitching together billions of panoramic images taken by a dedicated Street View car.
Is it safe for children and young people?
Google Maps is the same for children as it is for adults. However, children under 13 will not be able to contribute content to the platform (photos, ratings, reviews, questions), publish public place lists, add or edit places on the map, share their location, and see the timeline of places they’ve been to. As with any Google service, parents and guardians can set up a supervised Google account for any age child and can manage that account via Family Link (parental controls).
