Europe Day held on 9 May every year celebrates peace and unity in Europe. The date marks the anniversary of the historic 'Schuman declaration' on 9 May 1950 that set out his idea for a new form of political cooperation in Europe, which would make war between Europe's nations unthinkable. Schuman's proposal is considered to be the beginning of what is now the European Union.
This May the EU institutions invite you to a wide range of activities across the EU Member States, as well as in the home of the EU institutions in Brussels, Luxembourg and Strasbourg. 9 May 2024 will also mark the end of the European Year of Skills and the beginning of a new European Year.
