Ceibal - Uruguay Safer Internet Day Committee

Profile last updated: March 2025

About our SID activities

Ceibal´s proposal is based on seven key pillars, with device provision being just one of them. The underlying belief is that while technology alone is not the answer to educational challenges, it is impossible to envision the future of education without it.

Ceibal’s seven management pillars are:

  1. Connectivity
  2. Devices for education
  3. Educational platforms
  4. Educational programs
  5. Professional development for teachers
  6. Educational content
  7. Data and behavioral sciences

What we are doing to create a better internet...

Ceibal, as an innovation centre leveraging technology for education, is firmly committed to building a safe digital environment where everyone can express themselves and participate freely. Our teams approach this issue from multiple perspectives.

Ceibal has an information security strategy that includes the implementation of an Information Security Management System, following international best practices and standards with a cross-cutting approach.

Additionally, Ceibal provides tools for the safe use of digital technologies, fostering a critical, responsible, and creative approach to the internet. In particular, the Digital, Global, and Local Citizenship team offers materials, courses, and workshops for educators, aimed at promoting the development of competencies for practicing citizenship in digital environments.

At Ceibal, we encourage open, everyday spaces for dialogue, so that children and adolescents can share their online activities and feel comfortable seeking help when needed - making the internet a safer place.

About us

Ceibal is Uruguay’s digital technology centre for education innovation at the service of public education policies. Ceibal promotes the integration of technology to improve learning and foster innovation, inclusion and personal growth.
