About our SID activities

Each February, the Estonian SIC celebrates Safer Internet Day (SID) by organising different awareness-raising events and campaigns during the whole month together with different stakeholders at national level.

The Estonian SIC invites kindergartens, schools, youth centres and libraries in Estonia to celebrate Safer Internet Day by organising thematic events in their organisation or institution in February for children and young people to raise their digital and media competencies. Events can be registered on the webpage www.targaltinternetis.ee. After that they will be placed on the Estonian map.

Estonian Union for Child Welfare together with University of Tartu compiled a package of educational materials for teachers and youth workers which contain thematic games, videos, tests, lesson plans etc. In addition, information about apps popular among children is being provided, which are popular among children. Material is also useful for parents and can be found on the SIC website www.targaltinternetis.ee.

On the Safer Internet Day, Tallinn University of Technology will launch CyberPin 2025 digital skills online testing event for 1-6 grade students, which is opened until 31.03. Also, results and summary of the CyberNut 2024 testing events will be published.

In the framework of Safer Internet Day campaign, Estonian SIC will publish thematic videos for children and parents about online risks with tips about how to act and where to seek advice and help.

In February, also thematic webinars for teachers and parents will be organised. Information is coming soon.

What we are doing to create a better internet...

This year, we are focusing on cooperation and dialogue with children and young people about their online experiences. It is important to have open discussions about their life online, what they like to do, which apps they like most and why, which risks and challenges have they encounter online and how they have solved it, etc. Estonian SIC published awareness raising material which contains different tools for that - games, videos, interactive tests, etc. We encourage teachers and parents to use them and have meaningful discussions with children and young people which contribute to the mutual learning and cooperation.

About us

The Estonian Safer Internet Centre´s mission is to promote a safer and better use of the internet and digital technologies among children, parents and teachers.

The Estonian Safer Internet Centre (SIC) activities are a joint initiative of four organisations:

  • Education and Youth Authority carries out awareness raising activities (webinars, educational resources for teachers and students, etc.)
  • Tallinn University of Technology carries out awareness raising activities (cybersecurity testing events in schools, educational materials for teachers and students, etc.);
