[REMINDER, FOR INFORMATION]Reporting on SID 2026 actions As last year, reporting for Safer Internet Day will now be conducted through the BIK community and aligned with the tools used for assessment platform uploads. The form for Safer Internet Day 2026 submissions is now open; all submissions are due by the close of business on Tuesday, 10 March 2026, to allow for network-level reporting to the European Commission. This year, we are also providing a SID template submission for offline population and upload - download the SID 2026 template here. Please note, the form covers both the global day of celebration (10/02) and the full campaign period (01/02 - 28/02). The reporting process still includes an article on SID successes - this can be sent separately (to the file upload process), directly to the BIK content mailbox (as with all other platform content contributions). Early submissions of articles are most welcome. [NEW, FOR INFORMATION]Safer Internet Day 2027 Although we won't be fully promoting it until the end of the month, the global day of focus for Safer Internet Day 2027 will take place on Tuesday, 9 February 2027. We will share a customary save-the-date logo in the next edition of the Insafe Weekly Update. Please contact the SID helpdesk with any further questions regarding Safer Internet Day campaign actions. | |

| | | Commission seeks feedback on review of audiovisual media legislation | | [NEW, FOR INFORMATION AND ACTION] | The European Commission has launched a public consultation to assess the impact of the Audiovisual Media Services Directive (AVMSD) and explore options for its review. The AVMSD coordinates national legislation across the EU for all audiovisual media, from traditional TV broadcasts to on-demand services and video-sharing platforms. This review, planned in the Commission's 2026 work programme, aims to simplify and adapt the audiovisual media rules to a rapidly shifting media landscape, as highlighted in the European Democracy Shield. Core priorities include streamlining advertising rules, improving the level playing field between traditional and new digital players, and strengthening the protections of minors on video-sharing platforms. Furthermore, the Commission aims to secure the prominence of media services of general interest while improving coherence with other EU laws, notably the Digital Services Act (DSA). The consultation is organised in four distinct pillars: scope and enforcement, audiovisual commercial communications, protection of viewers, and strengthening of media diversity in the internal market. Feedback is invited from across the spectrum, including citizens, Member State authorities, companies and industry, consumer organisations, non-governmental organisations, including media freedom organisations, associations of journalists, and academic institutions. The consultation is open until Friday, 1 May 2026. It is currently available in English, and all other EU official languages will follow shortly. | |
