Cyber Safety - Cyprus Safer Internet Committee

Profile last updated: March 2025

About our SID activities

As part of Safer Internet Day (SID) 2025, the Cyprus Pedagogical Institute, in collaboration with the CyberSafety Centre and its partners, is organising its annual event under the theme 'Together for a better internet.'

Event Overview
The event will bring together students from public and private schools across Cyprus, providing them with the opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions and activities about online safety. It will be divided into two main parts:

  • Inspiring presentations – A keynote speaker with expertise in online safety will deliver valuable insights to primary school students, helping them understand how to navigate the digital world safely. Meanwhile, members of the CyberSafety Youth Panel will share their knowledge and personal experiences with a high school audience, offering peer-to-peer perspectives on responsible internet use.
  • Interactive activity stations – Participants will explore hands-on activity stations focusing on the safe and creative use of the internet. These interactive experiences will engage students, educators, and stakeholders in discussions about digital responsibility and positive online behaviour.

Our Goal
This event aims to promote responsibility, respect, and ethical online behaviour, encouraging children, educators, policymakers, and the wider Cypriot society to help shape the internet into a safer and more positive space for communication, entertainment, and learning.

We would also like to highlight the student-created videos promoting the safe and creative use of the internet. These videos showcase young people's perspectives on digital responsibility and online safety, aligning with the 'Together for a better internet' theme. These videos serve as inspirational and educational resources, encouraging students to engage in meaningful discussions about digital well-being. See the videos in the additional links section.

What we are doing to create a better internet...

  1. Safer Internet Day event – We organise an annual national event bringing together students from public and private schools, educators, and stakeholders to discuss digital safety. This year SID event will include expert presentations for primary school students, insights from the CyberSafety Youth Panel for high school students, and interactive activity stations on responsible internet use.
  2. Workshops and awareness sessions – In collaboration with our partners, we provide interactive workshops, lectures, and hands-on activities for students, teachers, and parents. These sessions cover essential topics such as cyberbullying, excessive screen time, online deception, and misinformation, equipping participants with the skills to navigate the digital world safely and responsibly.
  3. Video contest on online safety – As part of SID 2025, we run an annual video competition encouraging primary and secondary students to creatively express how we can work together to make the internet a safer space. Participants explore critical themes such as combatting cyberbullying, countering hate speech, protecting personal data, and promoting positive online interactions, fostering digital literacy and collaboration.

Through these initiatives, we empower young people and the wider community to learn, collaborate, and take action for a better and safer internet for all.
