About our SID activities
In 2026, on Safer Internet Day (SID), the Slovenian Safer Internet Centre will focus on the impact of consumerism in the digital world on young people. Children and adolescents are exposed to numerous consumerism traps online. In the digital environment, it is difficult to distinguish between trustworthy and misleading information. Children may lack the critical thinking skills required to recognise deceptive advertisements, fake reviews, online shops, or unfair marketing practices. Today, in the era of modern online consumerism, children and adolescents often do not understand the true value of money or why and how advertisements make products appear so attractive and ‘essential to buy’. Social media and online platforms can create pressure for children to own certain products or follow trends, leading to unnecessary purchases and a distorted perception of what is truly needed.
In cooperation with relevant national stakeholders, we are planning to organise an online event for parents on the topic of consumerism in the digital world.
SID 2026 celebrations in Slovenia will be supported by national governmental institutions, such as the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Digital Transformation.
For SID 2026, we will continue our tradition and expand Safer Internet Day into Safer Internet Month. We are offering schools in Slovenia the opportunity to register to participate in the SID celebrations. After registering, teachers and schools will receive a toolkit with classroom activities and a badge to promote SID on their school website.
We will also launch various campaigns on Facebook, X, and Instagram, encouraging our followers to engage in discussions and share their views and opinions. Additionally, we will run a series of training sessions for parents and teachers, as well as workshops for pupils and secondary school students.
What we are doing to create a better internet...
The Slovenian Safer Internet Centre (SIC) makes great efforts to reach as many schools from different Slovenian regions and include them in as many different activities as possible. We organise face-to-face workshops and seminars for pupils and students as well as their parents.
Every year, the Slovenian awareness centre encourages schools to prepare their own activities for Safer Internet Day (SID). To encourage participation effectively, we prepare a SID Toolkit each year, which includes lesson plans with activities for different age groups, decision trees, leaflets, videos and other interesting tools that can be used in the classroom. We also create a map of schools involved in SID to show that all regions of the country are covered.
