What we are doing to create a better internet...
- The helpline for all internet users was set up under the Safer Internet Centre to help mainly children and families with online safety issues. It consists of eight main topics, such as information security, cyberbullying, illegal content, social media, digital games, and so on. Users can get information from a Frequently Asked Questions system under these eight topics. If they cannot find any content they want, they can contact the helpline of the Safer Internet Centre and get advice from the centre via an online form or by call centre ALO 141. Approximately 4,000 requests to internetyardim.org.tr and 45,000 calls to the ALO 141 Internet Helpline were answered in 2025.
- For the conscious, safe, and effective use of the internet, regular training programmes are being held at schools, mainly for children, teachers, and families. The main goal of these seminars is to raise awareness and educate families and children about the safer use of the internet. In 2025, the centre organised 138 seminars and training programmes. We had the opportunity to reach around 22,000 people.
- Safer Internet Service (SIS) is offered by Internet Service Providers. Thanks to SIS, families and children have the opportunity of protection against harmful and illegal content on the internet. SIS is a discretionary and free-of-charge internet filtering service. See guvenlinet.org.tr for further information.
- In order to raise awareness concerning the safe use of the internet, up-to-date and comprehensive content, including news, articles and announcements, is shared through our Safe Web website (www.guvenliweb.org.tr). Also, the Safe Kid website (www.guvenlicocuk.org.tr) provides services for children, including games, activities, competitions, and training. In order to raise awareness about games, updated and comprehensive content such as news, articles and digital game reviews is shared on the Safe Play website (www.guvenlioyna.org.tr). Digital game reviews are evaluated by considering features such as violence, obscenity, swearing, and in-game purchases. Age ratings of the games are also included.
- We publish and distribute various guidebooklets and brochures on safer use of the internet, free of charge, to create awareness and consciousness and continue to develop various projects with related stakeholders.
- The Safer Internet Truck Project put into service. The aim of this project is to create a platform for children and youth who have limited access to technology countrywide. In this way, they are able to experience technology closely, and they will realise the opportunities of technology. The Safer Internet Truck has technology experience, robotic coding, virtual reality, conscious and safe usage of the internet, and competition areas. The truck is travelling all around Turkey, and especially to small towns. To date, the Safer Internet Truck has visited more than 200 schools across the country, reaching approximately 85,000 students.
- It is aimed to create a series of books on different subjects in order to contribute to the dissemination of “digital literate produces-protects-shares”, to create social awareness for the conscious, safe and effective use of the internet, and to contribute to the development of positive content for the transition from the information society to the love society, within the scope of the Open Source Project, since 2019, and with the open source philosophy by removing the barriers to accessing information in the field of information and communication technologies (ICT).
In 2025, as part of the Open Source Digital Content Production Project, in addition to the six books published so far, five new books titled “Family in the Digitalization Process”, “Disadvantaged Groups in the Digitalization Process”, “Law in the Digitalization Process: Theory, Practice and Ethics”, “Digital Transformation in the Age of Artificial Intelligence”, and “Education, Society and Technology in the Age of Artificial Intelligence” were published, bringing the total number of books available to the public to eleven. These books and other outputs of the Open Source Digital Content Production Project can be accessed at https://acikkaynak.gim.org.tr.
