About our SID activities

We provide regular updates on our work to strengthen safety, including recently updating our Model Spec with new protections, and we will continue to do so as we approach SID 2026 to support its objectives.

What we are doing to create a better internet...

At OpenAI, we believe a better digital space is one that is safe, trustworthy, and empowering for everyone. We design our AI systems with safety built in from the start, applying safeguards to reduce harmful content, prevent misuse, and protect user privacy. We continuously test and improve our models and update our policies as risks evolve.

We invest in transparency so users, policymakers, and researchers can better understand how our systems work and how we manage risks. By sharing documentation, safety research, and clear usage guidelines, we aim to support informed and responsible use of AI technologies.

We place strong emphasis on protecting young people online, including age-appropriate protections, parental controls, content policies, and collaboration with experts.

Finally, we actively engage with governments, civil society, and the wider digital safety community to learn, share best practices, and contribute to collective solutions. We believe improving the digital space is a shared responsibility—and that progress happens fastest when we work together.

Support for the Digital Services Act in the EU

OpenAI’s mission is to ensure that artificial general intelligence benefits everyone, and this commitment guides how we design, deploy, and govern our technologies. We know that ensuring the security, safety and privacy of all our users, including in Europe, is central to achieving that goal. OpenAI supports the objectives of the EU Digital Services Act and a risk-based approach to online safety and service accountability. We will continue to meet our regulatory obligations and also strive to set new standards through innovative solutions and by collaborating with governments, civil society, and the wider digital safety community.

We have a number of publicly available transparency materials and explanatory resources that describe our approach to safety-by-design and governance. Relevant resources include:

About us

We invest heavily in frontier safety research, build strong safeguards into our systems, and rigorously test our models, both internally and with independent experts.

We share our safety frameworks, evaluations, and research to help advance industry standards, and we continuously strengthen our protections to prepare for future capabilities.

Protecting young people online is a priority for OpenAI. We take a safety-by-design approach, with age-appropriate safeguards and protections built into our products. We’re committed to making strong teen protections and improving them over time to better support teens and families.
