About our SID activities

What we are doing to create a better internet...

“As the digital world becomes a bigger part of children’s lives – from how they play and learn, to how they build friendships and express themselves – many parents and caregivers are looking for ways to better support their children online and keep them safe. The LEGO Group’s digital empowerment activities are designed to give parents and caregivers easier and more playful ways to have conversations about the digital world together with their children” said Diana Ringe Krogh, Vice president, Social Responsibility at the LEGO Group.

The LEGO Group and UNICEF have a longstanding partnership to promote children’s rights and well-being in the digital space. An important strand in that work is our joint Responsible Innovation in Technology for Children (RITEC) project, which was a collaboration between UNICEF and The LEGO Group and funded by The LEGO Foundation. Key outcomes from that work were i) a child-informed, empirically validated a framework (The RITEC-8) that maps how the design of children’s digital experiences affects their well-being; and ii) a guide for digital designers on how to make informed design choices to promote positive well-being outcomes for children in digital play spaces. And we are continuing our joint efforts to inspire the designers and decision-makers in and around the digital play industry to center child well-being.

A UNICEF-led consortium, funded by the LEGO Foundation and supported by the LEGO Group, will work to build out the RITEC well-being framework and design guidance, and raise awareness and commitment among the digital play industry around the importance of designing for safety and well-being in digital pla

The LEGO Group’s mission is to inspire and develop the builders of tomorrow through the power of play. The LEGO® System in Play, with its foundation in LEGO bricks, allows children and fans to build and rebuild anything they can imagine. The LEGO Group was founded in Billund, Denmark in 1932 by Ole Kirk Kristiansen, its name derived from the two Danish words Leg Godt, which mean “Play well”. Today, the LEGO Group remains a family-owned company headquartered in Billund. Its products are now sold in more than 140 countries worldwide.

As a brand that’s all about play, we’re committed to ensuring play is safe for everyone. At the LEGO Group, we have a long-standing commitment to child rights and safety in a digital environment, and we have best-practice policies in place that are applied to every interaction we have with children.

Our commitment to digital child safety goes beyond protecting children online and extends to empowering children and families to become responsible digital citizens; providing playful learning experiences to help them not just stay safe, but also thrive online. The LEGO Group also works tirelessly to design its digital experiences for children with their rights, safety and wellbeing in mind.
