About our SID activities

Created to Empower
We aim to turn curiosity into passion and playtime into learning. To ensure teens encounter content that is not just safe, but enriching, we have introduced a blueprint for high-quality teen content. Developed in partnership with the Youth Advisory Committee and experts like the Center for Scholars & Storytellers at UCLA, these principles allow our recommendation systems to elevate high-quality videos - from creators like Khan Academy and TED-Ed - that are age-appropriate and inspiring.

Designed to Respect
We respect that every family’s relationship with technology is unique. We provide flexible tools, like Family Link and YouTube Supervised Experiences, that allow parents to choose the right balance for their home. We recently launched industry-first controls for mindful viewing, giving parents the ability to specifically limit time spent scrolling YouTube Shorts, or even set the timer to zero when it’s time for homework. Additionally, new custom "Bedtime" and "Take a Break" reminders help teens build intentional, healthy digital habits.

Built to Protect
Safety is the foundation of everything we do. We implement "safety by default" for users under 18, including SafeSearch and disabled location history. We are also making it simpler to ensure the right experience for every age, with updated sign-up flows that let parents easily switch between accounts to ensure their child is always in the correct, protected viewing environment. Behind the scenes, we continue to use advanced technology to detect and remove abuse, sharing these tools with the wider industry to build a safer internet for all.

We are committed to growing alongside the families we serve, listening to experts and parents to ensure our platforms remain safe, inspiring spaces for the next generation to explore.

About us

At Google and YouTube, we believe in protecting kids in the digital world, not from the digital world. Whether it is a child exploring their first tablet or a teen brushing up on studies and watching epic sports highlights, our approach is grounded in a single, holistic commitment: everything we do for families is created to empower, designed to respect, and built to protect.
