About our SID activities

We promote a better Internet for children by protecting and empowering children online, under the BIK+ Strategy, and by coordinating the Better Internet for Kids portal and the co-funded network of Safer Internet Centres.

What we are doing to create a better internet...

The European Commission wants to create a safe and engaging online environment for young people as they explore new technologies. With advancements like artificial intelligence, increased connectivity, and augmented and virtual reality, the way children interact and engage in society is evolving.

To support this, the European strategy for a better Internet for kids [https://digital-strategy.ec.europa.eu/en/policies/strategy-better-internet-kids] includes various measures such as funding, coordination, and self-regulation to ensure a safer online space.

The Commission co-funds Safer Internet Centres in Member States, coordinated by Insafe, and provides the Better Internet for Kids portal as a central hub for resources and best practices across Europe. Their main goal is to raise awareness and promote digital literacy among minors, parents, and teachers. They also work to combat online child sexual abuse material through their network of hotlines (INHOPE).
