About our SID activities

In 2020, ECPAT launched Project Beacon in response to the EU digital rights policy changes that would disadvantage children, dismantling their right to feel safe and protected online. Since then, we have kept advocating and campaigning in the EU (and beyond) for online service providers, tech companies, and governments to share their responsibility in creating a safer world for children online.

Follow us on our social media channels to learn about our latest statements and news about child protection online.

What we are doing to create a better internet...

Every child has the right to be safe from sexual exploitation, including in online and digital environments. We work to make this a reality by developing response strategies grounded in the best available evidence and informed by children’s lived experiences.

Our work bridges research, practice, policy, and action:
Together with our global network of member organisations, we generate and translate evidence on emerging online risks, advocate for strong child-centred laws and safeguards, and promote responsible design and accountability across the tech sector.

We provide training and capacity-building for civil society, professionals, and partners to strengthen understanding of online risks and effective responses. By holding governments, platforms, and other relevant actors to account, we push for policies and practices that protect children and uphold their rights in the digital world.

We also partner with the online gaming industry to create platforms that centre child safety and challenge rigid gender norms by design, as a way to prevent serious harms in gaming environments. These spaces are where many young people play, build communities, and explore different aspects of their identity. Our goal is to make sure they feel safe, seen, and included.

About us

ECPAT International stands as a united front of over 140 civil society organisations spread across over 100 nations, each passionately committed to the shared vision of eradicating the sexual exploitation of children. Harnessing the power of over three decades of experience in multi-stakeholder engagement and advocacy, our expansive network operates on national, regional, and global levels. We relentlessly drive forward, fuelled by the conviction that every child deserves a world free from sexual exploitation.
