About our SID activities

Discord is announcing a comprehensive teen safety initiative that brings enhanced protections to users worldwide. Nowhere is our safety work more important than when it comes to teen users, which is why we are announcing these updates in time for Safer Internet Day.

Teen by Default Settings Global Rollout: Beginning in early March 2026, Discord is launching teen-appropriate settings by default for all new and existing users globally. This expansion builds on the successful UK and Australia rollout in 2025, bringing consistent age-appropriate protections to Discord's global community. The rollout includes privacy-forward age assurance and enhanced default safety settings including content filtering, restricted access to age-gated spaces, direct message routing to a separate inbox, friend request alerts, and stage speaking restrictions.

Introducing the Discord Teen Council: Discord is also launching recruitment for its inaugural Teen Council - a teen advisory body of 10-12 US teens aged 13-17 that will bring authentic teen perspectives into product design and policy decisions. Applications are open from February 9th through May 1, 2026. By embedding diverse teen voices directly into decision-making, the Council will inform future features, policies, and educational resources. The above clarifies that this will be US-based only for the first year (we are hoping to rapidly expand) and that we are opening applications by 11 February.

These announcements build on Discord's broader safety ecosystem, including Family Center, Teen Safety Assist, Warning System, Guardian's Guide, and additional tools that empower users and families to create safer experiences on Discord.

What we are doing to create a better internet...

Discord was designed to help people build meaningful connections around shared interests and communities. We have a long-standing commitment to creating a safer and more inclusive experience for users where teens can connect authentically.

Our approach to teen safety starts with privacy-forward design principles and includes age-appropriate protections that balance safety with respect for teen autonomy and development. We design our products by working directly with safety and wellbeing experts, policymakers, and teens themselves, ensuring Discord understands what young people need to explore interests, build communities, and develop healthy digital wellbeing skills for the long term.

About us

Discord is the communications platform that enables you to build meaningful connections around the joy of playing games through voice, video and text features. Discord designs its products with teen safety principles at the core, working with safety experts, policymakers, and users to support long-term wellbeing while respecting teen autonomy and privacy.
