About our SID activities
In Romania, the 2026 Safer Internet Day, organised for the eighteenth consecutive year by Save the Children Romania, will take place on Tuesday, 10 February 2026. This year's event will focus on combating illegal activities on the internet, marking the launch of a comprehensive research study that explores harmful online behaviours and their impact on children's safety. Representatives from key authorities, law enforcement, and child protection specialists will contribute to the discussion, emphasising the need for collaborative efforts to identify digital risks and promote a safer, more transparent online environment.
A highlight of the event will be the national awards ceremony for the school competition, which celebrates students' creativity and digital responsibility across the country. Participants from various age groups will be recognised for their innovative projects that promote online safety and ethical behaviour in the digital space. This competition serves as a platform for young people to become active promoters of a safer internet, with the winning entries being showcased as best-practice examples for the entire educational community.
At the national level, we invite teachers to take an active role by integrating the theme of digital lawfulness and safety into classroom activities. Whether through guided discussions on online ethics or interactive projects regarding digital responsibility, these initiatives will help students develop essential skills to navigate the web securely. Teachers are encouraged to share their activities on our platform, contributing to a nationwide movement to foster a culture of respect, legality, and safety in online spaces.
What we are doing to create a better internet...
This year's Safer Internet Day will focus on addressing the critical issue of combating illegal activities on the internet. We are committed to fostering a collaborative environment where experts, educators, parents, and young people can come together to share insights and strategies to combat online illegal activities. Our goal is to empower children with the tools and knowledge they need to navigate the digital world safely and confidently. By uniting our efforts, we aim to create a safer and more inclusive online environment for all.
About us
The Romanian Safer Internet Centre, coordinated by Save the Children Romania, focuses on promoting internet safety among Romanian children, parents, teachers, and specialists through public awareness campaigns, educational sessions, and training programmes. It strives to enhance teaching methods in schools while advocating for improved public policies and legislation in this domain. Additionally, the project seeks to combat illegal or harmful online content and internet-related crimes, such as child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and grooming. By fostering responsible digital behaviour among children, parents, and educators, and by engaging key stakeholders in policy development and implementation, the initiative aims to create a safer and more informed online environment.
