About our SID activities
For Safer Internet Day 2026, the Moldovan Safer Internet Centre will coordinate a national awareness-raising campaign focused on the safe and responsible use of artificial intelligence by children and families. The campaign will run throughout February and March 2026 under the slogan “Let’s use AI safely” and will be implemented at the national level in close partnership with public authorities, educational institutions, civil society, and the private sector. During the campaign, we planned the following activities:
- Press conference launching the national campaign “Let’s use artificial intelligence safely”
The official launch of the campaign will take place on 6 February 2026, at the Government premises. The press conference will inform the general public and the media about the authorities’ priorities, the objectives of the campaign, and the planned activities, and will also mark the public opening of the photo exhibition “Parents & Children in the Digital Age”.
- Public event for educators and youth: “Intergenerational dialogue on how to use AI safely”
This event will facilitate the exchange of perspectives between generations and encourage a shared understanding of the opportunities and risks associated with the use of artificial intelligence.
- Engagement of educational institutions nationwide in campaign-related information activities
The International Centre “La Strada” will provide the Ministry of Education and Research with a set of educational and informational materials covering key topics such as what artificial intelligence is and how it works, its benefits and potential risks, and practical guidance on safe and responsible use. Educational institutions across the country will apply the national campaign’s visual identity in communicating about the activities carried out. Two informational webinars will be organised for representatives of educational institutions and local Education Departments.
- Launch of the information programme for parents and caregivers “Safe Online Zone”
Discussions with parents will address children’s developmental stages and the ways in which artificial intelligence may influence development at different ages. The programme will also present parental control solutions, particularly for parents of younger children, and will be implemented in partnership with the Moldcell Foundation.
- Expansion of the digital safety education programme for children and adolescents
Educational activities for children and adolescents will integrate a responsible AI use component, using interactive and age-appropriate formats. Through direct activities with adolescents and the involvement of trained teachers, approximately 20,000 children are expected to be reached.
- Organisation of the 8th edition of the National Competition “Together for a Better Internet”
Organised in an ideathon format, the competition will engage Student Councils in developing innovative solutions to promote online safety. The educational game “Cyber Quest – Digital Safety” will be tested as part of the event.
- Development and dissemination of informational video materials
With the participation of police officers from the Cyber Crime Combating Centre, video materials will explain, in accessible language, issues related to child sexual abuse material, associated risks, and reporting procedures.
SID 2026 is implemented in close coordination with the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection, the Ministry of Education and Research, the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalisation, and the General Police Inspectorate of the Republic of Moldova.
What we are doing to create a better internet...
To create a better internet, we work together with children, parents, educators, public authorities, civil society, and the private sector to promote a safer, more inclusive, and rights-respecting digital environment. Through coordinated awareness-raising, education, and support services, we empower children and families with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the online world safely, critically, and responsibly.
We place a strong emphasis on prevention and early intervention by providing accessible educational resources, professional counselling through dedicated helplines, and secure reporting mechanisms for harmful and illegal online content. By actively involving children and young people in dialogue and peer-to-peer initiatives, we support their meaningful participation and encourage them to become agents of positive change in their communities.
At the same time, we collaborate closely with national authorities and international partners to strengthen child protection systems, improve responses to emerging online risks, and promote ethical and responsible use of digital technologies, including artificial intelligence. By connecting policy, practice, and community engagement, we contribute to building a digital space where children’s dignity, safety, and well-being are respected — together, for a better internet.
About us
Safer Internet Centre in Moldova - SigurOnline.md - is the national online safety platform for children, parents, and educators, founded and managed by La Strada. The platform serves as a comprehensive information and resource hub, a specialised helpline for online-related concerns, and the national hotline for reporting child sexual abuse material. Since its launch in 2013, SigurOnline.md has become a trusted and widely recognised source of information on child online safety and has been consistently promoted through national awareness-raising campaigns and educational initiatives.
Since 2022, La Strada, through SigurOnline.md, has been leading the Safer Internet Centre Plus (SIC+) activities in the Republic of Moldova, within the framework of the Safer Internet Centre Plus Programme supported by the European Commission. In this role, La Strada benefits from continuous capacity-building, peer learning, and access to European expertise, including active cooperation with the Insafe and INHOPE networks.
In 2019, La Strada assumed the role of National Committee for Safer Internet Day in Moldova, joining the global network that promotes safer and more responsible use of digital technologies. Each year, in February, the organisation mobilises schools, public authorities, civil society organisations, and communities nationwide to engage in discussions and activities focused on online safety, digital responsibility, and positive digital citizenship.
In 2023, La Strada launched the SigurOnline Hotline, the national CSAM (child sexual abuse material) reporting mechanism, which enables users to submit reports safely, confidentially, and efficiently. The hotline supports the rapid assessment and removal of abusive material and ensures timely referrals to competent authorities, contributing to stronger protection of children online.
