About our SID activities
Safer Internet Day 2027 will take place on Tuesday, 9 February 2027, with celebrations and learning in the UK based around the theme ‘Reflect on tech: exploring digital well-being and our relationship with technology’.
In the 20 years since the first Safer Internet Day in the UK, concerns about the impact of the internet and technology on children’s well-being have never been greater. This year, Safer Internet Day falls in the important months leading up to the implementation of government restrictions, including a ban on social media accounts for under 16s.
At this pivotal moment, we are challenging everyone, from government, to families, to the internet industry to reflect on tech.
This could include reflecting on:
- the role technology plays in our day-to-day lives, and what a healthy relationship with technology looks like.
- how technology and going online impacts our mood and well-being, including the pressures and influences we may experience online.
- how families and young people can navigate their changing relationship with technology and can build strategies to make the most of their time online.
Safer Internet Day is a time for insight, reflection, and to make sure that young people’s voices are heard in the conversations that most impact them. Happening just before the implementation of new restrictions in the UK, this Safer Internet Day provides key opportunities for conversation and education about young people’s use of all technology, including social media.
This Safer Internet Day, we are asking everyone to reflect on tech. By exploring digital well-being and our relationship with technology, we believe that we can take important steps toward building a safer and better internet for everyone.
What we are doing to create a better internet...
We are starting a national conversation about digital well-being and are exploring the experiences and concerns that young people have around this topic.
We are engaging with a wide range of stakeholders - from government and policymakers, to schools, corporate organisations and NGOs to promote the safe and responsible use of technology.
We aim to reach children and young people, parents and carers, and the children's workforce to encourage these conversations to happen. We have education packs, quizzes, top tips and many more resources to support those who want to get involved across the four nations of the UK.
About us
The UK Safer Internet Centre (UKSIC), established in 2011, is a leading global partnership helping to make the internet a great and safe place for everyone.
We provide support and services to children and young people, adults facing online harms, and professionals working with children.
A bridge between government, industry, law enforcement and society, we are the engine of the online protection landscape in the UK, dealing with both prevention and response.
We are unique. Formed of three charities, Childnet, Internet Watch Foundation and SWGfL, we work together to identify threats and harms online and then create and deliver critical advice, resources, education and interventions that help keep children and young people, and adults, safe. We share our best practices across the UK and globally.
We focus our work around four functions:
- An awareness centre: Where we provide advice and support to children and young people, parents and carers, schools, and the children’s workforce.
- Three helplines: Which provide support to professionals working with children and young people with online safety issues, and support to all adults facing issues with harmful content and non-consensual intimate imagery online.
- A hotline: Which provides an anonymous and safe place to report and remove online child sexual abuse images and videos wherever they are found in the world.
- A voice to young people: We operate a Youth Advisory Board, and we nurture youth participation, providing a focus on youth voice to give young people agency to make a difference in their school communities.
UKSIC is the proud coordinator of Safer Internet Day in the UK. For more information on the next Safer Internet Day and how you can get involved, visit the website.
We work alongside 30 other centres across the European continent. Since 2022, we have been part-funded by Nominet – the public benefit company that operates and protects UK internet infrastructure and uses surplus funds to support projects that promote digital inclusion. Prior to that, we were appointed and part-funded by the European Commission as the Safer Internet Centre for the UK.
