Safer Internet Centre Lithuania - Draugiškas internetas

Profile last updated: February 2026

About our SID activities

The Safer Internet Centre Lithuania (Draugiškas internetas) – coordinated by LINEŠA together with partners RRT, Child Line (Vaikų linija), the association Langas į ateitį (LIA), and Mykolas Romeris University (MRU) – will celebrate Safer Internet Day (SID) 2026 throughout the whole month of February, inviting children, young people, educators, parents and senior citizens to learn, discuss and create a better digital environment.

On 10 February 2026, the Communications Regulation Authority (RRT) will host the national event “Skaitmeninė banga – The Digital Wave” (https://skaitmeninebanga.lt/). Age-appropriate online lectures on media literacy and online safety will be offered for four groups: primary schools, lower secondary schools, upper secondary schools and adults. The event will run in a hybrid format with most participants joining online from schools across Lithuania. After the main day, the Digital Wave will continue in public libraries in all 60 municipalities with local workshops and discussions.

The same afternoon, LINEŠA will organise an online training “Ar vaikams ne vieta socialiniuose tinkluose?” (EN: Are social networks not a place for children?) for teachers, parents and policy makers. The session will address the Digital Services Act, upcoming age-verification solutions and the benefits and risks of children’s participation in social networks, aiming to build a common understanding for schools and families.

Child Line will contribute with lectures for the wider public, including events at the Contemporary Art Centre in Vilnius and at the Lithuanian Parliament conference “Internetas be kaukės – misija (ne)įmanoma” (EN: Internet without masks – mission (im)possible), focusing on children and teenagers in the context of global challenges and bullying in the digital age.

A national school contest “Mano socialinis gyvenimas internete” (EN: My social life online) invites pupils to submit creative works about their online habits. Winning schools will receive workshops on online safety, AI and deepfakes.

Libraries and community outreach. LIA and public libraries will host decentralised meetings, documentary screenings (e.g., TikTok Boom in cooperation with NK-Doku) and lectures on safe use of e-government services.

Youth participation. The Lithuanian Youth Panel will organise independent activities in their schools during February: collective viewing of the Digital Wave, peer-to-peer lectures and a test competition using quizzes from Draugiskas internetas and Child Line, ensuring that young people shape SID locally.

All schools, culture centres and communities are encouraged to organise their own SID initiatives and use free online tests and resources provided by the Safer Internet Centre Lithuania.

What we are doing to create a better internet...

SID 2026 embraces the SID slogan "Together for a better internet" in many different ways. The main topics of 2026 are media literacy, DSA and the coming age verification which also touches a deeper topic about the complexity of our relationship to the internet and the activities that take place online. A major topic of the SID is also about security – in today’s world where peace and freedom cannot be taken for granted topics like drones, robotics, disinformation and propaganda are very important. The Digital Wave is the main tool to provide insights to the public with a main goal to spark discussions and public discourse throughout the month of February and perhaps the whole 2026. SIC Lithuania approach this year is not only to give lessons and trainings but to empower the Lithuanian population to organise their decentralised activities and initiate more local conversations about the topics that are so important to everyone.
