About our SID activities
For Safer Internet Day 2026, the Greek Safer Internet Centre (SIC) is preparing a series of engaging activities aimed at students, educators, parents, and the wider community.
The main national event will take place at FORTH in Heraklion and will focus on the topic of online bullying. The programme will include interactive sessions, expert talks, and the active involvement of young people, highlighting the importance of respect and safety in the digital world.
Across the country, schools will once again be encouraged to hold their own celebrations using updated educational material provided by the SIC. This ensures that children and teachers in all regions of Greece — including remote areas — can participate and benefit from the initiative. In addition, a range of online events will be offered for different age groups, covering current topics such as artificial intelligence in everyday life, cybersecurity, and children’s digital rights.
This year’s nationwide school competition, running since early October and open to all educational levels, focuses on the theme “Artificial Intelligence in Our Lives”. Its aim is to help children understand how AI works and what they should pay attention to when using AI-powered tools.
At the same time, the Greek SIC is organising a dedicated cybersecurity competition, “Capture the Flag”, for secondary education students. The competition is implemented under the auspices of the National Cybersecurity Authority of the Ministry of Digital Governance and aims to strengthen students’ skills in safe and responsible online behaviour.
What we are doing to create a better internet...
Through our awareness campaigns, educational programmes, and collaborations with key organisations, we actively promote safe online practices, digital respect, and inclusivity. By fostering understanding and engagement, we aim to empower individuals and particularly support vulnerable groups to navigate the digital world responsibly and confidently.
Our efforts include impactful events, engaging competitions, and practical resources that address critical topics such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, disinformation, online grooming, and internet fraud. We also provide clear and accessible information about the Digital Services Act (DSA), helping the public understand their rights and responsibilities under the new framework. In addition, our hotline operates as a trusted flagger, ensuring faster and more effective reporting and removal of illegal online content.
By working closely with educators, parents, policymakers, and organisations supporting vulnerable groups, we contribute to creating a safer, kinder, and more empowering internet for everyone — ensuring that all individuals, including those most at risk, can navigate the digital world with confidence and protection.
